Business Continuity

Business Continuity, sometimes called Business Continuity Planning, details the logistical plan for the methods an organization would use to recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical functions within a predetermined time following a disaster or extended disruption.

These distuptions could include local incidents like building fires, regional incidents like earthquakes, or national incidents like pandemic illnesses. At the lower end of the scale it could be planning an alternative if your caretaker who opens your office each morning is taken ill, getting your company website or email systems up and running in the event of issues with your ISP, through to maintaining your business in the event of a natural or man-made incident which could prevent access to your office for a prolonged period.

Planning for Disaster Recovery

How would your business survive without internet access, electricity or telephones? Would your organisation be able to continue if you were to lose the only copies of important documentation, contracts or contact details of clients?

Many small businesses create a Business Continuity Planning Manual which is stored safely away from the primary work location, and which containis the names, addresses, and phone numbers for crisis management staff, general staff members, clients details, and vendors/suppliers along with the location of the offsite data backup storage media, copies of insurance contracts, and other critical materials necessary for organizational survival.
